H13 / DIN 1.2344 / AISI H13 - Round Bars, Square, Flat & Forged Bars
H13 Tool Steel is also known as AISI H13 or DIN 1.2344, X40CrMoV5-1 is a grade standardised for hot working. The main feature of this grade is the combination of alloyed elements of chromium, molybdenum and vanadium, Cr-Mo-V, which provides a high wear resistance to thermal shock. It is well known as for its great strength, and heat resistance. It is heavily used for die casting and the cold heading field. The presence of high vanadium in DIN 1.2344 can handle the abrasion at both low and high temperatures. It always provides a uniform and high level of machinability. This tool steel is mostly used for aluminum, magnesium and zinc die casting.
AISI, stands for American Iron and Steel Institute. Also it was standardised as JIS SKD 61 by Japanese Industrial Standards. The surface can be nitrided to improve wear resistance.
The equivalent steel grade H13 / SKD61 / AISI H13 normally available in the annealed condition but in some specific applications, we provide Pre-Hard H13 with its standard hardness 460-500 BHN. Utilized for ejector pins, apparatus holders and shrink fit chucks.
H13 ESR / DIN 1.2344 ESR :
AISI H13 ESR (Electro-Slag Remelted) is the most refined material with the traditional VD route. The quality of material increase the toughness, highly increase the micro- cleanness level. Highly recommend the use of AISI H13 ESR grade for Aluminum Pressure Die Casting & other component subjected to high working temperatures and high pressure strength. H13 is fully ultrasonic inspected with 100% positive results as per NDT standards.

The electroslag remelting (ESR) process is used to remelt and refine steels and various super-alloys, resulting in high-quality ingots. This process can be started up through vacuum induction melting.

Applications of H13 Round Bars & Flats Bars :
H13 / DIN 1.2344 is widely used in various places in both cold and hot working. In hot work processing DIN 1.2344 shear knives and dummy block extrusion can be used. In cold work process this steel is used for punching, heading and inserting of die blocks. H13 is a high hot wear resistance and great strength, warm conductivity air hardening and invulnerability to hot cracking. It has a great resistance to abrasion at each low and high temperature due to the presence of high vanadium. The high level of toughness and ductility made it a useful material for die casting and the cold heading field.
