Stainless Steel 317L Plate / Sheets
Applications of Alloy Steel AISI 317 / AISI 317L / UNS S31700 / UNS S31703 / SAE 30317:
Stainless Steel 317 and 317L stainless steel is a low-carbon, corrosion resistant steel used to handle sulfur, pulp liquor, acid dyestuffs, acetylating and nitrating mixtures, bleaching solutions, severe coal and oil smoke, and many chemical compounds. In addition, Alloy 317L offers higher creep, stress-to-rupture, and tensile strength at elevated temperatures than conventional stainless steels. It is a low carbon or "L" grade which provides resistance to sensitization during welding and other thermal processes. 317 & 317L Stainless steel pipe, flanges and fittings are typically found in:
- Paper and pulp handling equipment
- Textile equipment
- Food-processing equipment
- Air Pollution Control
- Flue gas desulfurization systems (FGD)
- Chemical and Petrochemical Processing
- Explosives
- Food and Beverage Processing
- Petroleum Refining
- Power Generation — condensers
- Pulp and Paper
Properties of Alloy Steel AISI 317 / AISI 317L / UNS S31700 / UNS S31703 / SAE 30317:
Alloy 317L is a low-carbon stainless steel with increased additions of chromium, nickel and molybdenum for better corrosion resistance than type 316L. This steel resists attack from sulphurous, acetic, formic, citric and tartaric acids as well as combating the tendency to pit when in contact with phosphorous acid, chlorides, bromides and iodides.

Alloy 317 and 317L are molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steels. Due to the molybdenum content of 3-4% 317 and 317L are more resistant to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion than type 304. 317 and 317L are used in the Food, Pharmaceutical, Marine and Architecture industries.
